Becoming a MAUL Member

Step One: Letter of Petition

Anyone wishing to become an officer in the Mid-Atlantic Uniform League should send a brief letter of petition (either on paper or via e-mail) stating his interest to the Captain, who serves as the Membership Officer.  In addition, three Active Duty MAUL officers must endorse the petition before it is sent to the Chief for approval.

Step Two: Cadet Training

Upon the Chief's approval, the petitioner is granted probationary membership in MAUL and holds the rank of Cadet.  Cadets will have a three-to-nine month time period in which to complete their training under the supervision of the Captain.  The Cadet's primary responsibility during training will be to familiarize themselves with the club, attending meetings and events.  Cadets becoming Active Duty officers will also need to assemble the MAUL Class B uniform.  The Class B uniform is optional for MAUL Reserve Officers, who may also opt for the Class D (BDU) Uniform.

Step Three: Granting Membership

When the Cadet has finished his training and completed his uniform, the Captain will certify to the Chief that the requirements of membership have been met.  The Chief may then appoint the Cadet to be an Active Duty or Reserve Officer of the Mid-Atlantic Uniform League.

Costs of Membership

Membership in MAUL is set at $24 annually, payable once a petitioner is appointed as a Cadet.  The cost of the uniform will vary depending on how much of it the Cadet already owns.

Levels of Membership

Members of MAUL are divided into Active Duty and Reserve Officers.  Active Duty status is for those members who feel that they can commit to full participation in the club, attending all or most of the club's events and meetings.  Reserve status is for those members who are unable to fully participate on a regular basis, but would still like to be a part of the organization.  Only Active Duty officers are able to vote in club meetings and hold Executive offices.
